SDE Privy Council

ROYAL 45'S
(CAP AT 10 MEMBERS)

In 1745 the English Privy Council granted all land between the Rappahannock and Potomac rivers in the Virginia colony to Lord Fairfax, including today’s Fairfax County and Falls Church, home of SDE Brewing. The 6th Lord Fairfax was George Washington’s mentor, neighbor, employer, and friend.  The relationship between Lord Fairfax and Washington stretched from Washington’s teenage years until the end of the Baron’s life and its impact on Washington was significant.  In part, Washington’s failure to achieve Fairfax’s landed wealth and status pushed him into rebellion against Britain in the 1770s.  Despite being Revolutionary War foes, their friendship endured throughout the war and Fairfax was the only English royal ever to reside permanently in the American colonies.

(CAP AT 20 MEMBERS)

In 1898, on the site of SDE Brewing stood Camp Alger, the home of the U.S. Second Corps with over 20 Volunteer Regiments comprising almost 23,000 soldiers. Based upon a contemporary U.S. Army sketch, our brewery lies approximately at the site of the Second Corps headquarters which included an artesian well for drinking water. The surrounding area was farmland belonging to Woodburn Manor.

THE FAIRFAX RESOLVES
(CAP AT 70 MEMBERS)

The Fairfax Resolves were written by George Washington and George Mason on July 17, 1774, at Mount Vernon and announced a bold statement of fundamental constitutional rights and a revolutionary call for the colonies to protest British anti-American actions. The Resolves challenged Britain’s harsh retaliatory measures against Massachusetts in the aftermath of the Boston Tea Party. More than thirty colonies in Virginia passed similar resolutions in 1774, but the Fairfax Resolves were the most detailed, influential and radical. Take a stand and resolve to join SDE Brewing in creating history on the Fairfax County brew trail.
